New Years Day

New Years Day

There aren't many songs about New Year's Day besides the U2 one which legit has nothing to do with New Year's....alas the title just works so we're going with it! ;)

I ended 2016 with some of my favorite people (Derek, Jewels, Layne, Jay and our friend Andy) having an adult pajama party. We made awesome tapas style snacks, drank gingerbread martinis and played games all while hanging in our PJs. Perfection! Somewhere in the middle of a round of Cards Against Humanity I looked up and smiled for where 2016 brought me. I'm really ready to take on the next year and fortunate to have so many wonderful people in my life to help me do so!

This morning Jewels and I took a pop-up class at Studio Poise today called "Revive - Restore - Renew" taught by the fabulous Ali White. Ali is the first person to ever make me enjoy yoga and one of those people whose energy is just lighter to be around. You instantly feel better after being with her! You know the meme about a gangster rap listening yogi on her way to the farmer's market to make fresh juice? That's Ali. ;) The class was a combo of kickboxing, Pilates and yoga and she brought every ounce of her fierceness. It was her comeback class after being on maternity leave with her second little girl and damn did it deliver!  I was sweating and regretting my *Sam Sunday breakfast du jour of cinnamon/vanilla bean French toast and bacon breakfast within 10 mins, lol. She hit all the notes a great workout should hit and I was stoked we came before we even got to the yoga section.

After some nice stretches and a pigeon pose where I nearly achieved zen the class ended with us in savasana (rest) post and Ali reading a passage from the book "Healing and Transformation Through Self Guided Imagery" by Leslie Davenport. Admittedly this is not my usual genre but after hearing it I bought it for my Kindle because I figured it could be something I need in 2017!

When days rush past in a blur,
may you pause to receive the simple gifts that life generously offers.
When you are overwhelmed,
may you rest in the gentleness of your own heart.
When you are feeling hopeless,
may your imagination hold a torch to unseen possibilities.
When your mind is drowning in details,
may spaciousness arise, connecting you to the sacred mystery that you are.
When you are exhausted,
may you be refreshed by vibrant life forces always present within and around you.
When you are overcome with grief,
may precious tears bathe your heart with salty buoyancy and comfort.
When the world brushes you with harshness,
may you realize that we’re all works in progress, and life itself is a learning curve.
When nothing seems to be going your way,
may you make room for the unknown, finding patience with your unfolding life.
When you are disheartened by the suffering in the world,
may you find the courage and strength to stand for what you know is good.
When you believe that you are not good enough,
may you discover your inherent value and place in the family of all things.
May you receive earth’s bounty to nourish your body,
kindness to nourish your heart;
wisdom to nourish your mind,
and wonder to nourish your soul.

There is always an open door to reinventing yourself. If we move with the events of life, holding onto our memories but letting go of the past, and plan for the future but meet openly whatever arises, we discover that our life is more vibrant and free than anything we imagined.

How perfect is that?!?! <3

I'll be blogging this week about my 2017 goals and intentions along with some other revelations I've had during my week of craziness. Stay tuned! :)
