October Is My Favorite Color
A lot happened in the last 6 weeks and blogging just had to take a backseat to well, life! October is my favorite color and my favorite month. But before I tell you my goals let me fill you in on September. :)
I got a new job. Yay! This is much more aligned with what I enjoy doing and allows me to work with some folks I love including a long-time mentor and my brother! The culture is fantastic, the work is varied and gives me the ability to do all the things I excel at (project managing mixed with building out operational efficiencies mixed with customer engagement). Truly, a home run. The office is awesome - catered lunches, COLD BREW ON TAP and a super, chill vibe. I'm in work heaven.
This amazing gig comes with one big life shift, which explains my lack of blogging (or posting to social media or seeing friends) - it's about an hr away with traffic each way. In order to maximize the day I've been getting up at 4/4:30, working out in the morning, getting ready then going to work from 6:30 until about 4. I'm home and making dinner by 5/5:30 and I'm literally ready for bed by 8. I never realized how much commuting takes out of you! So in order to adjust I had to put the negotiables like blogging and seeing ppl on hold until I got in my groove.
I'm happy to say that after about a month I think I've got it down and I can come back to the living. :) I'm also happy to say my nutrition and food tracking haven't slipped at all and my food planning is on POINT because well, it has to be.
It’s funny that last September I was resigning from my job of 13 years to work from home and this September I’m starting a whole new professional chapter. September always feels like a nice time for a fresh start!
Speaking of, I’ve entered into a new phase with my workouts. Due to the aforementioned long commute and being WAY over my lease mileage on my Jeep I’ve had to take a break from my beloved Studio Poise. This means I cannot rely on scheduling a class then being accountable to showing up. Instead I have to build my workout schedule for the week (including seeing my trainer twice) then getting my butt to the gym. By myself. Without the excitement of seeing friends and instructresses. Without any fun check-in’s.
How’s it going? Well better than I thought! I’m getting 4-5 cardio sessions a week (currently on the treadmill working my way up to the elliptical then conquering the stair stepper). I’ve been tracking all my cardio session in a nice little rainbow spreadsheet and setting the goal of increasing my speed every week. 6 weeks ago I was at a 1.9 and could barely walk 15 mins without being exhausted (crazy given I could take 3 back to back classes and not be tired until the end!). Now I’m up to a 2.5 and rocking 30 mins with varying incline!
I also heavy lift with Trainer Mike twice a week (on Wednesday's at 5am...which lemme tell you is a CHORE) and then I try to do one circuit set on my own. Overall it’s working - I definitely miss the socializing - no one at the gym wants to be my friend, lol. Thankfully Derek gets excited to hear my victories (like leg pressing 320 and bench pressing 75 for the first full set ever).
On the weight loss front I'm down in the 270’s, wicked wicked wicked close to being half the woman I used to be. Isn't that nuts to think about? HALF the size I used to be!?! I can't wait to celebrate. It might coincide with the full payoff of my credit card debt which lemme tell you is a LONG TIME COMING. Huzzzzah.
Fall is the best season not just because of the colors or the scents or the baking or the legging /sweater combo I could live in for life but because the air smells so crisp and there's such promise on the horizon.
Last year I was excited to let go of the dead things in my life (career path, fake love etc). This year I'm flipping the script and I'm excited to embrace the next “level” of this goal digging. Overcoming huge hurdles makes way to be more of who I wanted to be right?
September was all about food prepping and sticking to schedule - which I did. October is all about going further and giving a little more. Can I add a class back in? Can I do some kickboxing at home? Can I stretch more before bed? Can I skip drinks with friends for yoga instead? Can I put my phone away and spend time with someone in person? Oh and of course can I embrace all the season has to offer? I'm talking caramel apple drinks, baking galore, leaf peeping and hopefully HIKING!!!
